Mommy (or Daddy) & Me Tumbling Toddlers Gymnastic Classes

Ages 18 months - 3 years

Ivanov's Gymnastics introduces our gymnastics classes for parents and walking toddlers up to 3 years of age.

This is a Parent Participation class, where a parent (or other adult over 18 years of age) is required to attend class with every child.

Using our small-size gymnastics equipment in our special "Kindergym" area, we instruct you to safely guide your children into the exploration of basic body movement, gymnastics body positions, strength, and flexibility.

Starting with BASIC BODY POSITIONS, we follow a progressive curriculum that includes real gymnastics skills, and FUN games with a purpose (sharing, cooperating, taking turns, ordinal numbers, sequencing, hand-eye coordination, motor skill development, listening skills). Besides our small-sized Kindergym equipment, we also use our 50-foot tumble track.

Classes will include segments devoted to general locomotor skills with emphasis on bilateral movements, body position, general strength, balance, sequencing activities, and skills specific to gymnastics apparatus (bars, beam, floor and vault).

Our Mommy (or Daddy) & Me classes are designed to teach the skills necessary to "graduate" into Preschool classes, in which we teach progressively more complicated gymnastics skills. Our Preschool (age 3-5.5) Skills Levels lead progressively into our School-Age (age 5+) classes. Each level of our program focuses on skills that build upon the previous level; we believe in increasing your child's confidence and sense of accomplishment with each new level achieved. Classes meet once per week for 45 minutes.

Gymnastics class is physically demanding; active children find that learning to focus their energy is both fun and rewarding. But keep in mind that gymnastics is also an important tool for early childhood education. Not only does gymnastics provide strength and conditioning that the child will use later on in a variety of team sports, gymnastics includes bilaterally symmetrical body movements that enhance perceptual skills. Gymnastics training provides sequencing drills of a motor nature that prepare the child for cognitive sequencing activities. Gymnastics provides an activity that a young child can enjoy, while enhanced neurological pathways are being built. It is not an accident that of all NCAA college athletes, gymnastics team members have the highest grade point averages.

Pre-school gymnastics classes

Ages 3 - 5-1/2 years

Using our small-size gymnastics equipment in our special "Kindergym" area, we instruct your children in the exploration of basic body movement, gymnastics body positions, strength, and flexibility on all events: bars, beam vault, tumble track, and floor.

Preschool Gymnastics Classes are taught in 3 progressive levels: Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced.  Class placement depends on previous gymnastics class experience.

This is a high activity 45-minute class that meets once or twice per week. Starting with BASIC BODY POSITIONS, we follow a progressive curriculum that includes real gymnastics skills, and FUN games with a purpose. We use basic gymnastics equipment (downsized for toddler to preschool children), as well as the 50-foot tumble track.

Preschool Beginners classes (Ages 3-5.5):  Any child age 3-5.5 who has never done gymnastics, or who has previously attended Mommy & Me gymnastics should register for this class.

These classes introduce children to the basics of gymnastics and all of the gymnastics apparatus.  We introduce the gymnastics terminology that they will need to know throughout their gymnastics classes.  Basic strength and flexibility, hand-eye coordination, and motor skills are stressed in order for your child to progress to the next level of gymnastics.

Preschool Intermediate Classes:  These classes are designed for children ages 3-5.5 who have some gymnastics experience.  Children that have completed at least one session in the Preschool program are eligible to register for this class.

Students will continue working through the gymnastics skill progressions on every event, building upon and perfecting the skills that they have learned in the Preschool Beginners Program.  They will also learn more difficult strength, flexibility, hand-eye coordination, and motor skills.  Intermediate Preschool gymnasts may attend class once or twice per week.

Preschool Advanced Classes:  These classes are designed for children ages 4-5 who have even more gymnastics experience.  Children who have completed 2-3 sessions of Preschool gymnastics are eligible to register for this program.

Children will continue to work through the gymnastics skill progressions, with a greater emphasis on proper body positions and correct gymnastics form.  They will also work on continuing to perfect the skills that they have previously learned in the Preschool Beginners and Intermediate Programs.  There will also be added strength, flexibility, hand-eye coordination, and motor skills as compared to the Beginners and Intermediate Preschool Programs.

School-Age gymnastics classes

These classes are designed for children age 5 1/2 and older, girls and boys.

Using the professional gymnastics equipment in our facility, we instruct your children in basic body movements, gymnastics body positions, strength, and flexibility on all of the gymnastics events: bars, beam, vault, tumble track, and floor.  Skills are taught in progressions, where new skills being learned are built upon skills that have already been mastered.  These classes are all 55 minutes long, and children may attend class once or twice per week.

School-Age Gymnastics Classes are taught in 3 progressive levels: Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced.  Class placement depends on previous gymnastics class experience.

Beginners classes:  Children ages 5 1/2 and older who have never done gymnastics, or who are moving from one of our Preschool programs should register for this class.

These classes introduce children ages 5 1/2 & older to the basics of gymnastics and all of the gymnastics apparatus.  We also introduce the gymnastics terminology that the children will need to know throughout their gymnastics classes.  Basic strength and flexibility skills, as well as strength and conditioning exercises on all events, are also taught in order to help your child progress to the next level of gymnastics.

Intermediate Classes:  These classes are designed for children ages 5 1/2 & older who have some gymnastics experience.  Children that have completed at least one session in the School-Age program are eligible to register for this class.

Students will continue working through the gymnastics skill progressions on every event, building upon and perfecting the skills that they have learned in the Beginners Program.  There will also be more emphasis placed on proper body positions and correct gymnastics form.

Advanced Classes:  These classes are designed for children ages 6 & older who have even more gymnastics experience.  Children who have completed at least 2 sessions of School-Age gymnastics are eligible to register for this class.

Children will continue to work through the gymnastics skill progressions, with an even greater emphasis on proper body positions and correct gymnastics form.  They will also continue working to perfect the skills that have been learned in the Beginners and Intermediate programs.  There will also be added strength and flexibility skills as compared to the Beginners and Intermediate Programs.

Rising Stars and Pre-Team

The Rising Stars and Pre-Team programs are for children ages 6 & older who are interested in eventually moving on to the Ivanov's Gymnastics Competitive Team Program.  This class is by invitation only!

Children ages 6 years and older in the School-Age Gymnastics Programs will be evaluated on the skill progression, strength, flexibility, and body positions near the end of each session of classes.  Children will be invited to join our Rising Stars Program when our coaches think that they have acquired sufficient skill to be able to do so.  Students in the Rising Stars Program would then move onto our Pre-Team Program for more preparation to move onto our Competitive Team Program.  All Rising Stars are required to attend class twice per week for one hour per class.  All Pre-Team Students are required to attend class twice per week for one and a half hours per class.  Students in both classes will begin learning the USAG Level 1 routines, and they will have a fun, In-Gym, practice meet in April or May.  In addition to these routines and the skills needed to perform them, there will also be strength and conditioning exercises on all events.

Tumbling Classes

Designed for girls and boys ages 6 and older, this is a high activity 55-minute class that meets once or twice per week.

Starting with basic tumbling skills, we follow a progressive curriculum that will teach your child Tumbling skills on the Floor and Tumble Track only.  Students in a Tumbling class will not be instructed in any skills on any of the other gymnastics apparatus.

Classes will include segments devoted to general locomotor and body position skills, general strength and balance, and skills specific to Tumbling and Cheerleading.  Skills are learned in progression, with one skill building upon skills already learned.  Students may progress at their own pace, and our instructors will work with each child  at the level of his or her current ability, and increase the difficulty as students increase their ability level.  In addition to tumbling and flexibility skills, there will be several strength and conditioning skills performed during every class.

Our Beginners Tumbling classes are designed to teach the skills necessary to "graduate" into Advanced tumbling classes.  Beginners Tumblers are students who DO NOT HAVE their Back Handspring.

Our Advanced Tumbling classes are designed for students who HAVE their Back Handspring.  In the Advanced Tumbling Class, students work on perfecting the skills learned in the Beginners Tumbling Class, and we also teach progressively more complicated Tumbling skills, such as back and front tuck, Lay-out, full, and combinations using these skills.

Strength and Conditioning Classes

Designed for girls and boys ages 5 and older, this is a 55-minute class that meets once per week.

We now have an ALL NEW Strength and Conditioning only class.  These classes, offered once per week, can be taken in addition to a regular gymnastics or tumbling class, or as the only class that you attend.  Children will work on strength and conditioning exercises to make them stronger and more flexible.  We will do in-gym testing every 2-3 months as a challenge to see if they can beat their own personal scores from the previous testing date.
